Our new copy of Black Rain: Music from the Motion Picture has arrived for the Green Room. This Hans Zimmer soundtrack comes in a special blue-vinyl two-LP edition from Quartet Records. We ordered it through Light in the Attic and photographed the package, artwork, pressing and liner notes as we opened it.

Unboxing the blue-vinyl edition
The mailer opened to a bubble-wrapped sleeve, with the familiar Black Rain artwork on the front and detailed track information on the back. Our copy arrived with the jacket and contents protected in the box.

The pressing and liner notes
The disc has a rich blue appearance under our room lighting. The included booklet is a particularly welcome part of this release: it discusses the film, Zimmer’s score, and the work undertaken to restore and expand the material from surviving recordings. This is a first look at the physical edition, not yet a judgment on how it sounds.

One small fit issue with our copy
While putting the record on our Audio-Technica AT-LP70X, we noticed that the center hole felt a little too snug on the spindle. It took more effort than usual to seat and lift the record. The short silent clip below comes from our actual handling footage; it shows the fit issue rather than a sound test. We have not established whether this is typical of other copies, and we would not recommend forcing the disc or altering the hole without proper care.

What comes next
Next we’ll listen to the actual pressing in the Green Room and report back on surface noise, playback and how the expanded material comes across. For now, this is an authentic photo-first unboxing of our copy—not a listening review.
